Adventure Waters receives approval

The $35 million Cairns water park project, Adventure Waters, has received approval from the Cairns Regional Council.
The park is due to begin construction in May, which marks the end of Cairns' wet season. A completion date has been set for April 2011.
Paul Freebody, CEO of the project, said that the council's decision was "fantastic".
Adventure Waters is split into two stages -- with the second stage penciled in to begin construction shortly after the park officially opens.
Once both stages are constructed, the park will be home to an array of water rides, including:
- Lazy river
- Tornado 45
- Mammoth River slide
- Six-lane OctopusRACER
- Simulated surfing area
- TantrumALLEY
- BowlingALLEY
- Dual Twister slides
- Plummet Freefall and Turbo Tunnel slides
This announcement comes just a day after news surfaced of a $3 billion Disney-style theme park complex planned for the region.
