Merlin Entertainments Group buys Cypress Gardens

The owners of LEGOLAND and various other properties in Europe have purchased the financially struggling Cypress Gardens theme park.

A spokesperson for the Merlin Entertainments Group told the Orlando Sentinel that the purchase included Cypress Gardens, the Splash Island water park and botanical gardens.

The buyout follows the announcement on September 23, 2009 that the parks would close until alternative arrangements could be organised to fund the parks' operations.

No official figure for the buyout has been released.
