SEGA Republic, a 7,000-square-metre indoor theme park, has opened its gates at The Dubai Mall, the world's largest shopping and entertainment destination.

Emaar Retail has developed the newest leisure attraction at the mall, SEGA Republic, in association with Japan-based SEGA Corporation.

The theme park is designed to meet the expectations of the thrill-loving youth of the region, but is also a great place for parents to have a fun day out with their children. Visitors can look forward to over 150 amusement games that will appeal to all.

Arif Amiri, Chief Executive of Emaar Retail, explains, "SEGA Republic is the first of its kind in the Middle East and it delivers an unmatched, distinctive leisure experience for all visitors".

"The theme park complements the myriad of other leisure attractions within the mall and provides quality entertainment for all visitors".

"Through our partnership with SEGA Corporation, we have brought world-class leisure expertise to the region to ensure that the very best in theme park entertainment is delivered".

With nine attractions spread over five themed zones -- Speed, Adventure, Sports, Cyberpop and Redemption -- featuring a huge array of everything. From action packed motion simulators to simulated sports games, classic carnival games and one of the region's largest selections of prize-winning redemption games, SEGA Republic has it all.

Combining the latest in leisure technologies with high entertainment value, SEGA Republic represents a milestone in indoor theme park development. While the Speed Zone offers thrills for the adrenaline seeker on attractions such as the 9-metre drop ride Sonic Hopper, the Adventure Zone has the keenly awaited Spin Gear, a spinning coaster replete with sound and visual effects.

The Sports Zone includes the latest trendsetting sports simulation games that are based on real world sports. One of the highlights of this zone is Halfpipe Canyon, a high-tech snowboarding half-pipe that gives riders the thrill of throttling up and down a seven-metre incline at speeds of up to 40 kilometres per hour. The Cyberpop Zone offers cutting-edge interactive entertainment through a variety of next-generation gaming equipment, virtual experiences and light-hearted fun. The Redemption Zone hosts one of the region's largest selection of redemption games as well as a huge selection of winnable merchandises for all ages.

The theme park operates the same hours as the mall, which is from 10am to 10pm Sunday to Wednesday and 10am to midnight Thursday to Saturday.

The opening of the indoor theme park follows the recent launch of Reel Cinemas, a 22-screen megaplex with more than 2,800 seats. KidZania, an award winning 'edu-tainment' concept that provides children role-playing experiences in a scaled-down version of a city, will also open later this year. This will further strengthen The Dubai Mall's portfolio of leisure attractions and complete its entertainment precinct.
